Default Free Realms: Best New MMORPG of 2009

A new story entry has been added:

[drupal=1144]Free Realms: Best New MMORPG of 2009[/drupal]

2009 has now come and gone and the annual review of the entertainment industries have begun. One of the features that is always interesting to watch is the naming of the "best new MMORPG of 2009" by Examiner.com, MMORPG.com and Massively.com.

This year was an interesting one for MMORPGs (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Games) as it featured the release of various new games which ranged from the classic role play environment where you adventure and explore dungeons as a combat class to the new casual base of Free Realms - which tried to embrace its message of "It's your
world - do what you want to" and give players a large selection of activities to participate in.

While Massively and MMORPG gave the nod to more traditional RPG (Aion, Fallen earth and Runes of Magic respectfully) Examiner.com's Jaime Skelton purposed Free Realms as the best new MMORPG of 2009 for its communication, innovation, consistency and reach to a wide range of players and ages.

On the topic of the Free Realms player base Jaime stated:

"While popular doesn't mean better, Free Realms managed to pull off an incredibly one million registered users in just 18 days live - and for months afterward, kept climbing million by million. Now we all know that registered users doesn't mean everything when it comes to active players, but the numbers till indicates the amount of people who gave enough thought of the game to try it out even once. A large part of this was due to a successful advertising campaign launched not only online, but via TV media.
To add to the reach, Free Realms has a broad player base. Although designed with tweens and teens in mind, the game can appeal from anyone aged 6 to 60, and many adults became active paying members of the community. This wasn't just parents joining their kids; this was a phenomenon of adult players coming to enjoy the game for what it was. SOE managed to hit a game with broad appeal."

You can read the full article here.

Not only has Free Realms successfully brought in a large range of players from different ages, they also manged to bring in the elusive female gamer (Free realms hits two million registered users!), a target audience the gaming industry has been trying to reach for many years.

Free Realms continues to reach many audiences and achieve many interesting highlights as the game grows and moves forward. Our member Nymo has been highlighting the ways that Free Realms is influencing the gaming industry with its new way of looking at things over at his blog and had this to say about the awards:

"I'll begin this edition of Insight with some good news and some bad news.

Bad news is that the KAPi awards (
which I mentioned last time) happened last night, and Free Realms did not win in the Virtual World category. Who won? Well, if you must, go click the link to find out...
The good news is that Free Realms got another, bigger award: Best New
    MMORPG of 2009

    </p>
    Over on
Examiner.com's MMORPG Examiner, Free Realms beat out other new MMOs in 2009, including Aion,Champions Online, Cities XL,CrimeCraft, Fallen Earth, Alganon, Runes of Magic, and Darkfall Online. Free Realms was the only kids game in all of the new MMOs of 09, but won it for this writer. Why? Because of 4 things: Reach, innovation, communication, and consistency. All of which I agree with. To read more, check out the full article here.

If there's more awards that FR has won, I'll be sure to keep my eye out for it! Congrats to Free Realms and the whole Sony Online Entertainment crew!"

You can read the full blog post here.

Further on Nymo explains in detail the filter and how these high standards of safety is achieved. We look forward to the many more insights and reading further about how the gaming industry may be influenced by Free Realms!

Thomas Edison's last words were 'It's very beautiful over there'.
I don't know where there is, but I believe it's somewhere, and I hope it's beautiful.

Yay! That's good news to hear. Free Realms is one of the best MMORPGs ever!
And BTW, Club Penguin won the KAPi award?!?!?!?!? SUPER Ewwww..... @_@ It's too boring over there at CP because nearly everything there is members-only. That leads to umm... what can you do as a free member?

Yup. That's one very weird choice...
Free Realms deserves it too. Club Penguin is never fun unless you're a paid member since regular members can hardly do anything there. For Free Realms, it's fun no matter if you are a member or not.

Free Realms has put trials on nearly every job in the game and relies on paying members too .

Well, at least you can access a decent amount of features on Free Realms even if you're not paying.

For Club Penguin, all you can do is chat, play a few minigames and missions (either haven't been updated in quite some time) and get some free clothes during events. You can't even buy stuff as a non-member!! Not much fun, right?
