SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – February 8, 2010 – Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) today announced that more than eight million unique users have registered to play Free Realms™ ( www.FreeRealms.com), the free-to-play, family-friendly hit online video game. Free Realms has steadily increased its player base by continuing to support development of compelling content and shared user experience. New features, such as Player Housing, have encouraged players to customize and create their own unique definitions of gameplay, while instigated Live World Events and player parties engage the community at large, allowing players to interact, discover and explore.
“Free Realms is more than just a virtual world for our players; it is a portal for imagination. A place where players transform their house into a jumping maze for friends to compete or a petting zoo that boasts all their pets,” said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. “Our job as developers is to listen to and predict what they want and give them the tools that inspire and compel them to share their experiences with eight million others.”
Later this week, Free Realms is scheduled to kick off the Festival of Hearts, a special month long event that celebrates love, friendship and kindness. All players will be able to participate in themed events, daily social activities and storyline quests that incorporate traditional items and rewards which embody the holiday: hearts, candies, forget-me-not cards, flowers, love potions and more. Heart Breakers are invited too, as even the Stone Hearted can participate in the world events that ensue. New Hippo, Tiger, Beetle, Groundhog and Owl pets will also be available in the Marketplace.
Recently nominated in the category of Best New Social/Online Game by the organizers of the tenth annual Game Developers Choice Awards, Free Realms continues to redefine the scope and pace of online games.

When Free Realms Insider members get together it is just so much fun! Our last luau was a rocking good time so we're throwing another party this weekend in honor of Valentine's Day. Party plans include an attempt at a large group photo and a contest in which someone will win a Beautiful Bouquet virtual reward or a Duelist on Demand voucher code courtesy of EOJcollectors! We'd like everyone to wear red, pink and/or white to the party so start working on that outfit if you haven't already. Here are the details:
Date: Saturday, February 13th
Time: Noon EST (which is 11 am CST and 9 am PST)
Place: Claire Goldenbeach's Large Wilds House
Server: One
You'll want to add Claire to your in game friends list this week if you'd like to attend the party. Claire will also be at the Rock a half hour before the party starts to add friends. <Insiders> need not worry...you already have access to my home via the guild. Hope to see you all there! The great thing about being an member of Free Realms Insider is that you get all the breaking news! Thank you to FRI member ShoppingShopping for passing along the following new code in Free Realms. The code is BARKBARK and the reward is Bark Chocolate, which turns you into a brown dog for 30 minutes! It can be used three times too. Free Realms added a baby penguin last night during maintenance! Thanks to Zonic for this info. Here's the full article:
We are doing an update to the Station Cash Marketplace tonight. While we are updating, the game servers will be unavailable. We expect the maintenance to last approximately an hour.
What's going in this update?
Pets with different colors and textures have been added to the Marketplace! Look for new ponies, spiders, dinosaurs and a unicorn. There is a brand-new addition as well...a baby penguin!
How adorable is this pet? So unbelievably cute! The baby penguin retails for 250 SC and he glides around like he's ice skating, flies and spins around on his head like he is breakdancing as his tricks. Interestingly, this pet penguin is about twice the size of the penguin mask penguin. Thanks to SOE for this awesome pet addition!

North of the Bristlewood Warpstone is the imposing Tanglewood Fort. The fort is home to legions of Wugachug Soldiers who protect the area from all sorts of dangerous creatures. The fort is also the location of our next Community Event! Join us in Briarwood for a special party in the highest towers of the Tanglewood Fort! We’re sure to make the towers shake with music and dancing.

As a result of our growing and active community here at Free Realms Insider, we've decided to name an official FRI and Insiders hangout spot in game. If you are between battles or TCG matches, taking a break from quests, looking to connect with friends or just plain feeling social you can stop by our 'spot' to catch up with other FRI members! We'll be hanging out on Server One near Main Street in Sanctuary at the rock on the Southeast corner. The picture provides a visual of the location. Hope to see you all at the "Rock"!

Free Realms has released new versions of the dinosaurs Tex (who now comes in Pink!) and Crackers (available in a beautiful Green) along with a new spider friend named Fritz!
All of these Pets add to a huge variety of creatures available to hang out with in Free Realms and are available through the Station Cash Store. Be sure to check it out today, who knows -- you may just fall in love with Fritz the jumping spider!
